The Great Polymaths Migration
For just over a year, I (along with a number of FediFriends) have been partaking in an Alpha instance using the alpha software GoToSocial. Over the year that we were running this test instance (which I, along with a few others, used as my primary Fediverse instance) we amassed 48 users, 103838 toots and federated with 10663 other instances (all across the Fediverse). A huge success.
Back on 20th October, Amin (the wonderful admin), spun up a GtS instance on the main domain (as GoToSocial moved from alpha to beta). On this day, I signed up for my account which reserved my username and had me on the list for accounts to be approved once things got fully setup (moderation settings, etc.).
On Friday 13th December, we got the toot we’d been waiting for, migrations were now open. As soon as I saw this toot, I got straight to it, I had some issues where I couldn’t login over the web panel/dashboard, but I eventually got there by installing Metatext and using the in-app web browser to do all the setup. Since that point, I migrated from the alpha to my new main account. My new account has (at the time of writing this) got the below statistics.

This new instance, in the few days we’ve been using it, has already gotten: 22 users (all migrations from alpha), 592 toots, and has federated with 5581 other instances.
There is still a few people who need to migrate over, but this will come in the next weeks. The alpha instance is going to remain hosted for the foreseeable future so as to keep links working.
This has been The Great Polymaths Migration.
I hope you enjoyed this blost, let me know your thoughts in the comments (or by email). This was a fun one to write, and I am definitely not writing this at 1am on a Sunday morning.
