App Defaults - Part 1 - My Phone

This series is inspired by my FediFriend RL Dane’s blost and this blost is inspired by JCrabapple’s blost.

I try alternative apps all the time, but I also have a set of apps that I always end up using and going back to when things don’t work out. This blost will look at my phone.

Web Browser

I have changed web browsers so many times, but have settled on one, that I feel is the best option available (which is going to be its own blost. The one that I have settled on, is Vivaldi. It’s jam packed with features that I may never use but they are great to have in case I need them (of course they can be disabled if you don’t want them).

Text Messages/Phone

The core function of a mobile phone is to make calls and send messages. I have a variety of messaging apps on my phone but my main one is the default, bog standard Messages app. This does what I need; it sends messages to my contacts. I sometimes use WhatsApp for some contacts but my main form of text communication is Messages.

I also have things like Facebook Messenger (for family, only reason I have a personal Facebook account) and others but these are not used as often as my defaults.

Media Consumption

On my phone, I only really watch YouTube videos. To do this, I use the standard YouTube app by Google (:O I know, evil). It does what I need (with some things I don't, cough, cough, ads, cough, cough). It's not the best setup, but it does as good as it gets on iOS.

Camera/Photos

As with Text Messages/Phones, I just use the default iOS apps for Camera and Photos. They do what they say on the tin, they take pictures and and manage/view photos. As expected.

That's it, I have other things on my phone, but those are the "defaults". I will next talk about what I use on my laptops (there will be 2 parts to this, maybe more as I have a couple of them for different reasons).

I hope you enjoyed, and I'll catch you in the next one.
